Results are updated right after the draw is held every Monday, Wednesday and Saturday evening at 10:59 PM EST in Tallahassee, Florida. Powerball is an American interstate lottery game played in a total of 48 jurisdictions. Known for generating huge jackpots that start at $20 million and can sometimes run into ten figures, the game attracts millions of players every week, with winners coming from every corner of the country.

To play, you have to select five main numbers from 1 to 69 and a Powerball number from 1 to 26. It costs $2 to play. To win the jackpot, you must match all five main numbers and the Powerball drawn on the night. Another eight prize tiers are available in each draw, including a prize for matching the Powerball alone.

This Powerball data includes all draws up to and including Saturday 28^th January 2023. Chronology is used to distinguish ties.

Power Play

For an additional $1 per play, you can add the supplementary Power Play game to your ticket, which could increase the value of any non-jackpot prizes won. The option to include Power Play or not is available in most states, although in Idaho and Montana it is automatically included with every Powerball ticket.

A 2x, 3x, 4x and 5x multiplier can be drawn at random in all games, while a 10x multiplier can come into play when the jackpot is worth $150 million or less. Players who match five main numbers receive a fixed prize of $2 million, regardless of the Power Play number drawn.

Double Play

The Double Play draw takes place just after the main Powerball drawing and gives you another chance to win up to $10 million with your Powerball numbers.

Currently, Double Play is available from these lotteries, and may expand in the future: Colorado, Florida, Indiana, Maryland, Michigan, Missouri, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Puerto Rico, South Carolina, South Dakota, Tennessee and Washington.

If you're in one of the jurisdictions offering Double Play, all you have to do is add the option to your playslip. The cost per line is $1. There's no need to pick new numbers - your existing Powerball numbers are used.

A separate Double Play draw is held, and you can win prizes in all the same categories as the main game if you match enough numbers. It is even possible to win prizes in both Powerball and Double Play on the same night, depending on the combination of numbers drawn.

• The multi-jurisdictional Powerball game was first launched in 1988 as Lotto*America before being renamed to Powerball in April 1992. Players have always had to select five main numbers and one Powerball number but there have been several changes to the number matrix since the launch.
• Wednesday 22nd April 1992 - Saturday 1st November 1997 - Players had to choose five main numbers from a choice of 45 and one Powerball from a choice of 45 - Matrix of 5/45 + 1/45.
• Wednesday 5th 1997 - Saturday 5th October 2002 - Number matrix of 5/49 and 1/42
• Wednesday 9th October 2002 - Saturday 27th August 2005 - Number matrix of 5/53 and 1/42
• Wednesday 31st August 2005 - Saturday 3rd January 2009 - Number matrix of 5/55 and 1/42
• Wednesday 7th January 2009 - Saturday 14th January 2012 - Number matrix of 5/59 and 1/39

• Another key change to the game has been the introduction of Power Play in 2001, while the price of a ticket has gone up to $2 to help pay for even greater rewards. The prizes have been altered across the various tiers over the years to drive up excitement, and the jackpots have kept getting bigger.
• Thursday 30th January 2020 – Powerball launched in Mississippi, taking the total number of participating jurisdictions to 48
• Monday 23rd August 2021 - A third weekly drawing was introduced, with draws now taking place on Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays. At this time, 13 jurisdictions introduced Double Play.

Biggest Jackpot

The Powerball jackpot broke through the $2 billion barrier for the first time in the draw on 7th November 2022, when a single ticket holder from California won $2.04 billion. The previous record had been worth $1.58 billion and had stood for almost seven years, dating back to 13th January 2016. Three ticket holders - Marvin and Mae Acosta from California, the Florida-based Nickel 95 Trust and Lisa and John Robinson of Tennessee – had split that jackpot, winning $528.8 million each.

How to Claim a Prize

Congratulations on winning a Powerball prize! You’ll need to claim the win via the lottery where you purchased the ticket. Claim periods vary by state, and are typically six months to one year from the winning draw date. Usually, wins of $599 and below can be cashed at a retailer, while prizes of $600 and up need to be claimed at a lottery office or by mail, and will require a completed claim form and copy of identification in addition to the signed winning ticket.
